Gales of November / The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

from The Music of You Are Good, Vol. 1 by Carolyn Kendrick

/

about

Gales of November was adapted from the Gordon Lightfoot classic The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and inspired by the You Are Good episode covering The Perfect Storm [2000]. The lyrics have been changed to fit the ethos of the episode and the story of the Gloucester fishermen who have lost their lives.

lyrics

Oh the legend lives all the way down
On the water they call the north sea
The sea it is said never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early
When the skies of November turn gloomy

When your ship comes in, you’ll be happy
When your ship comes in

Does anyone know where the love of God goes,
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they’d have made Whitefish Bay
If they’d put fifteen more miles behind her,
If they’d put fifteen miles behind her

Oh they might have split up, or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters
Of the sons and the wives and the daughters

When your ship comes in, you’ll be happy
When your ship comes in

The sea it is said never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early
When the gales of November come early
When the gales of November come early
